A Day in the Life of this position includes:
• Assist in R&D when beginning new DFX projects
• Extensive typographic work, including researching and formulating title design templates and layouts for use within DFX department
• Pre-QC OV data in for trailers/features, requesting resupplies as needed
• QC all DFX deliverables. A/B comparison with OV
• Create and QC PDF proofs/checkers before forwarded to client
• Liaising with Digital Artists and DFX Producer
• Assist Digital Artists as needed per project (including but not limited to Checker Creation, Dub Card Creation, Design and Compositing, File management, etc.)

The Design department designs and installs approximately 50+ exhibitions and rotations per year, alongside capital construction and buildings projects at various stages of design, gallery re-installation projects, and special projects for the Directors office. The studio provides design services for a building that is over 2 million square feet and contains objects from 17 curatorial departments, collaborating with over 50 departments to serve an average of over 7 million visitors annually.
The Design Department includes Exhibition Design, Graphic Design, Lighting Design, and Production teams. As part of a four-person team, the Junior Production Artist brings organizational skills, a collaborative spirit, and adaptability to production for exhibitions and other projects. This position responds to production needs with pragmatism, responsiveness, and flexibility in close consultation with the other Production team members.
The Junior Production Artist is responsible for extensive hands-on production (printing, trimming, lamination, mounting) and installation of various graphic materials for a wide array of exhibitions and other projects at the museum. They will assist Production Artists on production for large and medium projects, and be individually responsible for small projects as assigned. Duties also include production and installation of selected interior and exterior signage, as well as requesting and reviewing prepress proofs from external vendors as needed. Critical to this position is close collaboration and support for team members as well as effective communication with Design department colleagues, multiple museum constituents, and outside vendors
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
• Hands-on fabrication of graphics (labels, didactic texts, and other graphics) including printing, trimming, lamination, mounting for gallery installations, exhibitions, and other museum signage
• Installation of object labels, didactic texts, cut vinyl, wallpaper graphics; mock up of various graphic and exhibition elements as need
• Colormatching to various in-gallery materials as required

In the conceptual process, the candidate will teach through demonstration and by example from their professional experience, the techniques of research, exploring multiple narrative and editorial directions, developing visual solutions and determining an aesthetic approach that best communicates the ideas they choose or are commissioned to convey.

• Demonstrate ability to implement the newly redesigned Illustration curriculum by teaching students to apply the creative power of new classroom technology while synchronously incorporating the integration of traditional illustration skills and techniques in conjunction with digital media in class assignments and projects.
• Demonstrate ability to design engrossing class assignments and other learning experiences to enhance information literacy and research skills, as well as challenge preconceptions, foster experimentation, cultivate critical thinking and advanced problem solving abilities and inspire students' creativity, innovation and imagination.
• Demonstrate ability to teach students how to integrate, synthesize, and utilize information and skills from various disciplines including photography, design, animation, film, writing, social sciences, world history, art history and resources such as the Web, in the process of the creation of exciting and effective visual communication images and illustrations.
• Demonstrate ability to be an effective verbal communicator and speaker who conducts enlightening and thought-provoking lectures, presentations, demonstrations and critiques, as well as applies current communication, research and promotional resources, strategies, and technologies, in particular, digitally.

• Demonstrate the dynamic application of digital technology to serve as a research tool on the Web for Illustration assignments, in developing concepts, and conveying visual communication illustrations.
• Demonstrate the effective use of technology and electronic information systems in the Illustration hybrid classroom environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of six (6) years professional experience as an illustrator in one or more visual storytelling.
• Candidates must present a currently active professional record demonstrating agility in adapting to new modes of visual storytelling and an aptitude for adopting new technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Terminal degree in illustration, fine arts, design or other visual art discipline preferred. College, professional certificate and/or workshop teaching preferred.
This position will be required to constantly read and comprehend, occasionally perform calculations, constantly verbally communicate, frequently analyze, and constantly write. The working conditions for this position will be any combination of the classroom, lab, and/or office space. Certain roles may be required to handle machinery and chemicals. The physical requirement for this position will require occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional bending, frequent walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.
Additional Information:
