Phyllis Kimmel: I recently did a three-hour private photo workshop with James Maher and it was awesome! From the start, James was great about communicating the options and was flexible in scheduling. I decided to do his SoHo tour and enjoyed it immensely. He shared some general tips about street photography and photographing city scenes, answered all kinds of questions I had about camera equipment, and helped me with my camera settings.James took me to nooks and crannies in the SoHo and Chinatown neighborhoods that I'd never been to and had a lot of fascinating information to share about these bustling NYC neighborhoods. His enthusiasm for NYC and photography are infectious and I came away feeling motivated.Next time I am in NYC I hope to be able to check out his Brooklyn photo workshop.

I chose this tour in order to get acquainted with photographing in an area of the city that I never really got to know when I lived in New York City several decades ago.After I paid a deposit to book this tour, I received an email from James that contained three photography-related pdf attachments. They were very impressive and really added value to what I paid for the tour.The tour began on time and was conducted in a professional manner. I found James to be personable and easy going and I enjoyed our time together.James took the time to get a sense of my photography "level" as well as my goals for the tour. It seems clear to me that James is capable of providing a worthwhile tour experience to photographers of all levels.As a result of our photo walk, I came away with a good number of photographs that are personally satisfying to me. No regrets. It was a good day.

Gina Hurng: We had such wonderful experiences with Glow Portraits for my maternity portraits and both of our sons’ newborn photos. Sophie and her staff were super pleasant and professional to work with. They made our experiences both at the studio and at our home very calm and fun. Our toddler warmed up to Sophie right the way during our newborn photography for his baby brother. We are so thankful for all the beautiful photos Sophie took and are excited to display more of them in our home. We highly recommend glow portraits!!

Sophie came to our home, set up the shoot, directed us, and there was very little we had to do to prepare in advance, which was a relief at the time. We did a total of six looks; some I was hesitant to do but so glad I did it once Anabella showed me some of the pictures on the camera, trust them! Seeing how she captured the looks allowed me to feel a little more confident as we went through the shoot. I began to cry in shock at how much I loved the images, even through the small screen!Start to finish, the shoot went off without a hitch. My husband did a few shots with me and sat through a few looks, it was nice to have the support

Brett Bakies: and Terry walked me through each step of the process in preparing for the shoot. As the big day neared, it was clear that the weather was not ideal. We worked together in strategizing the best approach and discussed plan B options. We ultimately proceeded in the light rain - Terry brought along an assistant to hold an umbrella and came prepared in the rain. Then, we were an hour behind schedule! Terry and Corey waited for an hour in the rain for us to get into the proper positions. caroline paul: Cannot say enough of Terry Gruber. Needing to get senior portraits in the middle of some impending deadlines. Terry is extremely professional- a trait often taken for granted. He was prompt and courteous. Extremely hardworking and showed great insight in navigating location, personality of my teenager and what would suit her needs. Did a lot of prep work before the shoot. He put us foremost, from the get -go and I knew, right away- we were in very good hands. Obviously his expert experience in the industry greatly helped us, guiding us with all aspects including hair/makeup!He made my daughter feel very comfortable, as well her parents. His assistant Max was fantastic as well.And the photography- brilliant! Both the digital and the FILM are spectacular- resulting in many compliments. Do not hesitate to use him for your senior portraits. There is no need to shop around.

During the proposal our photographer was hidden well, and gave us enough Time time to realize the First impressions. There were other spots and places suggested after the proposal to take great photos. Also, we were not pressured because of the booked time and we had the feeling they have enough time for us.

By the time we were boarding our flight, I had the day planned in 15-minute increments to account for every possible detail.So naturally, the weather decided not to cooperate.We awoke the morning of to freezing rain as a winter storm took the day by force. I distinctly remember thinking to myself, "If only the temperature dropped ten degrees, then at least we'd have snow."Undeterred, Terry was already prepped to triage. "What color is your umbrella?" he asked. Dark grey, it turns out, is less than ideal for a photo shoot. "Text me your room number; I'll have a white one messengered."As I made my way through a handful of half-truths to convince my partner we should dress up and take stroll through the park, the final piece was delivered to the lobby just in time. We stepped out towards Bethesda Fountain for our secret rendezvous, making our stairwell entrance only four minutes behind schedule.Terry blended in perfectly. Tailing ahead of us as we meandered across Bow Bridge, he captured shot after shot of us without ever blowing his cover. To my amazement we arrived at my chosen spot to find it all to ourselves, and without ever needing to look, I knew Terry was ready. One hand behind my back, I knelt... and for five minutes, the city was ours.I share that story with tears in my eyes, grateful to have someone care about that day as much as I did.Were I ever to plan it again, Terry Gruber would be my first call.
