Academy Records & CDs: what do users think?

Young Lonchiek: The Best!! Been coming for well over 20 years, and their attention to detail has never wavered. Top-quality best price

Deborah C.: Store with many choices for lovers!

Keaton Bell: I like discovering cool new-to-me records from just digging through he bins. Pulled 5 that looked really interesting from a great selection of used records, but they don't have a listening station available for me to see if I vibe with them so I ended up putting 4 back. They said they used to have a listening station but didn't like how rough some people would handle the records. If sampling records in-store is part of your shopping process, this might be a setback for you too. Better for collectors who know what they're looking for before they go in. Had a 10% discount for cash purchases.

Peter T.: Incredible cd and record selection with something always in store and of acute interest for me and any other real music fan ‼️

Laura Marini: Great selection, fun to browse, they don't have many of these anymore. Cds, dvds, vinyl. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, no pressure.

zelu wang: great selection of classical&jazz musicfound some surprises in budget sections too

Kyle Barber: They have more obscure stuff that makes it stand put among the few remaining used cd stores

kevin mahon: Great selection of Records and tapes plus CDs.

Yafreily Jimenez: Nice and cool place

Ambelique Malebranche: They buy some import cds and records at a decent price for resale so if you don't have time to sell on ebay they are your best bet!

Scott Kutasienski: Great store for some people, but wasn't the store for me.Well organized, and plenty of stock.

Westsider Records: what do users think?

Benjamin Adler (BenMech): Meh

Michel C.: absolutely impressive especially in film and classic music with more than interesting prices.

Daniela Rognoni: I stumbled upon this neighborhood gem this past weekend and was in awe with the large vinyl selection. The store is packed with rare finds across all genres. There is a listening area in the back to test out the records and the owner is very kind and friendly. Can’t wait to go back!

Eddy Lex: Hard to find rare records and laserdisc's

David Cole: Finally had a chance to visit this store, had a chat with Bruce, bought some 45's. Thousands of Lp's from every genre. Very organised. 👍

Generation Records: what do users think?

Xtreme Logic: Best record store in NYC!

Janis Glaeser: Incredibly many records and cassettes. But quite expensive.

Mario L.: I just turned 40yo and I've been coming to this shop since I was a teenager. Hadn't changed much!

Mark Shred: Always has some hidden gem you've been looking for. Every time I come here, I leave with something off my wants list !Well priced Records too !!!!

Kevin Wright: Enjoyed digging in the basement

DerekorDie: This place is amazing but PLEASE reload on black metal!!!!!! Emperor,Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Watain, Darkthrone, leviathan, portal! you guys are the only place where you can get extreme metal, but pickings are slim lately

Eamon Kelly: I was looking at vhs tapes and there was only music tapes no movies

Shaun Gill: A quick visit just before they were closing purchased Punks Not Dead on Tape got some free stickers & smiles from the friendly staff 😎 cool place 💕

Christopher Galbraith: Amazing metal and punk inventory to browse through. Check out the books too!

Nicolás Rapetti: I went to this record store designated as one of the best in NY. In my case, I was looking for hip hop records in particular. In this area in particular they do not have much variety, honestly. And I would say nothing used, no original edition. In exchange for the other items there is a lot more. It is located in a very busy neighborhood, there are people permanently. Perhaps that is why friendliness does not characterize the vendors I ran into the two times I went. Most of the records are located downstairs, where there is also a wide variety of musical tshirts, none too original. In summary: to be considered one of the best record stores in NY, it seems to me that it is not up to par.

Selvin Sosa: great variety

Moodies Records: what do users think?

Michael Williams: GREAT VINTAGE SELECTION OF REGGAE MUSIC

Eugene Lynch: The place is a mess and if you do manage to find something the prices are ridiculous.

Demo Clarke: Awesome place. Really miss Eric Moody though.

Oliver Hernandez: This store in the bronx it isn't that bad I mean they sell some good cds I brought some cds from them and it's like an underrated store

Alexander Green: Marked as open on Google and the store was shut down. Don't go there.

yah yah: Its the place to search for music especially the sound clash....

Lala A: This is a historical shop. Although the location has changed from the original. I gave it a four because the music was incredibly loud when we walked in. and they should really make the place look a bit more presentable. However they do have a great selection of old school records which I love and they're very knowledgeable and can direct you to what you are looking for.

Garfield Burns: Moodies for decades has been the finest sellers of current and past reggae music.

Ryan Shannon: Great place for Vinyl records CD’s or DJ equipment. Vintage soundtracks they’re a lot of options to choose from

Joe Phillips: Great collection of soul funk etc on vinyl, but prices aren't marked and its up to the owner. Very over priced for the records in the grades they are. I got soaked buying 12 for $140 of G+ at best graded albums. One is so warped it won't even play. The others are full of scratches etc. Bottom line check any vinyl before buying. And don't accept the first price given because the vinyl and sleeves are no way worth what they want in their current condition. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I attached a video of the Fatback Band album they sold me. Um Houston we have a problem.

John Speck: Exceptional spot for digging. Not a lot of foot space so be prepped for shuffling! Real Jamaican deal here.

mark portrick: Bless up to Earl Moody. This was a servant of the Lord, a servant of his community, and a servant of life. My condolences to Earl and his family. I bought my first "45" from Earl more than 30 years ago. A true True Breddren'. He will be missed

Kareen with Two EE's: ..and as I listen to the old school Motown music that he loved .. I recall when I was younger and how he used to love coming to and hanging out at Moodies. If we wanted to find daddy we can go to Moodies. Thanks for the memories.RIP Bunny.

Jose Miguel Avila: It's ok

UPTOP CLICK: The best there is nothing recorded you wont be able to get there Moodies is the best

William Mack: Great place to shop's at the people there is nicely service have a lots old excellent music and new they all so have DVD movie there for your enjoyment.

michael elliott: It's was great times. Thank You.

Record Runner: what do users think?

Peter T.: Fantastic cd and record collection, fair-to-bargain prices on some great finds as well !!

Graham George: Came by to see the Freewheelin’ photo spot and stumbled upon this store; the owner was very helpful and nice and showed me the identifying landmarks of the album cover on the street outside. Picked up the Dylan and Velvet Underground & Nico records and couldn’t stop smiling when I left. Fantastic spot.

George Sarpola: I love this place after one visit! I had a great time browsing and once I talked to the owner about what I collect he was super helpful to help me find what I wanted!!

Mark Gordon: Best import titles in NYC!

Scott Kutasienski: Can't say it was a good store, can't say it was a bad store.Went to it first when visiting the village and it was closed when its google hours said it should be open. Gave it 20 mins went back and still closed???

Samantha Gerard: love this spot. as a local i hope this spot is here forever.

andy murphy: Great shop, some cool buys and packed to rafters with some gems. Could spend a good few hours sifting and who knew freewheelin photo taken outside 🤔.....not me! Top stuff 👏

Robby McDonell: Amazing selection. Great service and great pricing as well. Collectors heaven

Patryk Szypura: The owner is very rude

Margo Rometo: Super rude owner, tight quarters, nothing you couldn’t find at other stores in the west village

andrew shaw: First time in New York and so pleased I found this store the owner was very friendly and told me about the local history and some tips on what to see and do in New York.I bought Lou Reed New York one of my all time favourite albums and was great to finally get it on vinyl from his city, he used to come into the record store too!

Lior Weizman: Very highly quality 2nd hand and many new rare items, large collection of Michael Jackson and Madona

Ricardo Paderni: Great record store!! Many Japanese editions!! Ask John what you’re looking for and he’ll help you straight away. Very honest seller!! Thanks John!

Kevin Wholihan: Best selection I’ve ever seen.

Maggie Wolfe: John is the best, he was super helpful and friendly. He literally left his shop to show us different angles of where Bob Dylan stood. Really fun place.

Limited to One Record Shop: what do users think?

Jasper Schriber: This is an amazing store with a highly specialized inventory. Despite the small size of the shop it’s full of amazing finds. If you’re looking for rare hardcore, punk, emo, and metal this is the spot.

Jonathan Previtera: Quintessential record shop for collectors and music aficionados looking for deep cuts and more. Also recommend following his IG handle for the latest and greatest for those not able to visit the shop.

alphonso cino: Great selection, great prices. The owner is hands on and actually cares about the vinyl. They even get exclusives. My #1 stop for records if I'm anywhere near NYC

Andrew Rutledge: One of the best record stores around. HIGHLY recommend!

Brandon Schlotfeld: and have never visited New York without going to the shop ever since. A truly amazing and unique shop.

M K: and conversations. You might even

Syrena: The store has a great collection with some hidden gems, and all in great condition. The owner is also really knowledgable and friendly, highly recommend a visit!

Marcos Carvalho: Awesome records, helpful person.

Hunkofplastic: Best record store highly recommend if your into punk/alternative and just rare cool records

Rivka Holler: Best record store in NYC, especially if you're looking for some punk/emo/hardcore gems. I never leave empty handed!

Chet Backwudz: Small shop with some limited/rare pressings of metal, hardcore, experimental, and rock albums. This is not a place to find a lot of used/cheap records. Prices range from decent to hefty. Come by if you're looking for something specific in these genres, but it's not a bargain store by any means and there's not enough volume to justify traveling from far and wide to simply browse. More like 3.5 stars but they're decent folks in there and there's nothing necessarily wrong with offering a more eclectic/expensive selection.

Michael Austerlitz: , this place is a gem for me. It took me a while but I made it. Kristian is super personable and all his stock is well curated, fairly priced, and extremely limited. He’ll play stuff for you before you buy which is something you only get at a nice small shop. Coming back for sure.

Downtown Music Gallery: what do users think?

Miroslav Uremovic: Cool store with a small selection of cassette tapes. Drop by if you’re in the neighbourhood.

Kevin Summers: Great selection of jazz, +adjacent experimental and improvisational music. Free concerts on Tuesdays. Check their website. I try to stop and when I'm in the city. Really a highlight of visiting NYC for me.

Martin Rea: Ideal for lovers of jazz and World music mainly. It was the first record store I visited in NYC and where I found the Blasters album that I had been looking for for years

Ashley Greene: incredible collection

Josiah Cuneo: Essential and historic record store for jazz, experimental, and new music. Super knowledgeable staff, and impressive collection of rare and out of print albums.

Alek Duba: Great record spot with a really knowledgeable group! They also do live events!!I've stopped by a couple of times, and the collection is small, but very well curated. The owner is knowledgeable, available, and kind. One of the first spots I found on my record collecting journey and one of my favorites.

Brian Williams: "Good Good People there" 👍😁🔌🎧🥁

Andrew Shay: A perfect shop—good vibes, deeply knowledgeable yet approachable staff, excellent selection of CDs and vinyl, and they’ve been supporting the improv community in NYC and abroad for over 30 years.Drop in, say hi, grab some records and stay for an in-store show!

Brad Hebert: Legendary music store. Support music!

Pat Mogianesi (ScottishUnicorn): Rad selection of stuff, lots of neat jazz, rock, n weird stuff.

M.Anıl Yüzer: Best of best in town

Tim B: Very tiny space with interesting collection of CDs and records. Owner very friendly. More CDs than vinyl.

daniele mesiti: awesome staff that isn't overwhelming with music knowledge and pretentious like most record shops. the selection is pretty vast and the suggestions i was given ended up being records i bought and have already thoroughly enjoyed. it's nice to feel like you're looking for something everyone might know only to find that you found something better and obscure and there's far more novelty in that item

Rock and Soul DJ Equipment and Records: what do users think?

Rodrigo Fidel: The best Place from the djs !!!

Maria Eidenback: Super nice staff. I like that they have a record player In which you can play/listen to any of their used records before buying.

Jenna C.: My friend and I stopped in to Rock and Soul on a very busy day. Despite the mayhem of RSD at the time, the staff still made us feel incredibly welcome and supported. As a relatively new vinyl record collector, sometimes record stores can be a bit overwhelming with the plethora of products and little space, but the staff was beyond kind, helpful, and knowledgeable! So thankful for my Folklore Long Pond Studios RSD vinyl. Definitely worth a visit for vinyl record enthusiasts, new and experienced!

Fedan: This store has a huge variety of records: old and new, lesser known and old time classics, jazz/rock/pop/electronic… you name it and they probably have it. I didn’t even start with electronics which is also something worth mentioning. Overall it’s a musician’s paradise but even if u just wanna buy some records, there isn’t a place more perfect than this.

darya: This place is AMAZING! The selection is enormous and the people are super nice. Found everything I was looking for and more.

Gary Lapidus: Found this store on the internet when I missed out on some record store day releases. Their web site was up to date, accurate and staff very helpful. Product was well packaged and delivered timely. While transaction was by mail, I’ll definitely be stopping by in-person next time I’m in NYC & will continue to be a remote customer as well. Highly recommended.

rob simpkins: Just an awesome spot for vinyl. Some incredible rare jazz and hip hop cuts in here - found so many dope records that I came back to buy more before I left NYC - massively underrated spot and the staff were super nice friendly and helpful. If your into dope hip-hop and rarities then this is highly recommended - totally my cup of tea and couldn’t speak higher of this place - will be back here next time I visit NYC as a priority 10/10 for prices and curation

Felipe Mejía Zugarramurdi: beside to vinyl machine if he can help me. He said "do that at your home" and I explained him that it is a gift and I don't know how use that machine. Then I asked him if he can help me with the machine and he refuses to help me replying that I must do that by myself. Rude men. After a blonde girl

G-Money Estebands: Y’all are amazing! Thank you for being a crucial part of Record Store Day!

Lorenzo Antigua: Came back here after I found out one of my vinyls were warped. First lady I spoke with offered to help me and told me to get another one and try it out on their turntables but I was then immediately "frowned upon" by another employee who said "I can't open more vinyls for you to see if it's warped, you have pick something else" Didn't even try to offer me an exchange or anything. I ignored him and just kept doing what I was doing with the first lady. Left a sour taste in my mouth for this highly popular record store. Turntable lab might be my new go to spot now.

Javier Hernandez Mendez: Good variety of vinyl.Good customer servicegood prices

johnny mendoza: Rock & Soul best Electronic and music store to still be around for so many years and still holding their own much respect. I want to say to everyone at rock & Soul and customer service thank you for my easy going smooth transaction. Highly recommend Rock & Soul to everyone to make a stop by if you are in New York or shop on their website they have everything and anything you need, Thanks again to everyone at Rock & Soul you guys Rock, Shout-out to Erlyn.

Calvin Gray: A scrappy record shop with good deals and fascinating finds for the dedicated vinyl aficionado. The staff are friendly and helpful; they always did right by me, even in the cutthroat chaos of Record Store Day. It's always worth paying a visit when you're in the neighborhood.

Nicki Kuba: Very friendly, good prices, good stock, good selection.Something you wish for more in Germany.

rajesh ramsaroopsingh: I had a wonderful experience with rock and soul although its not my first experience i had bought from the back in 2008 i think but anyway they don’t play around they are precise with there promise. I preordered a djm v10 mixer they told me il get it in February and so done. Kristen is so professional and helpful big shout out to her. Rock and soul rocks 💯👍🏾

Yael Amrami: Best store for music equipment! Love the stuff too they're so nice 🙏🏼

Oluwaseun Oluwasegun: A big shout to the team. Please keep up the excellent work you guys are doing
