Westsider Rare & Used Books Inc.: what do users think?

Petite Mort Nur: Young, pretentious, purple haired, and blonde booksellers. Apparently these booksellers don’t want people who are interested in rare out of print items such as Tarot cards. These children asked me for my bag and threw it on the floor next to their feet. Other customers in front and behind me with bags did not have their bag taken. Two minutes later I discovered they didn’t have what I was looking for but before I left, I thought I would ask. When I asked about used tarot cards, they responded, “We don’t do Tarot here,” in the voice of lumpy space princess from Adventure Time. Yes it was that annoying. Apparently this store prefers customers who are bland elitist and out of touch yuppies. They definitely were rude and I don’t care what their excuse was.

Mickey van der Stap: Beautiful little bookshop. I was a bit in a hurry, which you should never be if you're looking for a good book, but the place was very homely, prices where good and there was a good selection of books.

STACE: Stopped by this cute book shop during my stay in NYC. The employees are friendly and helpful for the most part. The prices are in the upper-mid range, but that’s expected especially in a city like NYC. Would much rather support a smaller local bookstore like this one than somewhere like B&N. Will come by next time if I’m around the area.

Antikvariat PRAZSKY ALMANACH: Excellent selection of rare books.

Caitlin Smith: Small, unassuming used bookstore with a surprisingly appealing offering of books. It’s a wonderful place to uncover new favorite books.

Jasmine De La Cruz: Was not a good vibe at all. Smelled incredibly like books but staff wasn't friendly and the space was too small for my plus sized self.

Althea Ross: Prices were great, books were quality, and it was very quiet which I appreciated. It's a tight squeeze, so don't plan to bring strollers, etc inside.

Esther Ko: Got a cute old edition of Pride and Prejudice from the store! They have a wide range of collections and sell used books for ~$5. Great place to find good reads, especially if you’re not looking to spend $25 on a book.

max tang: I have been to this book store twice now. The first time was perfect with respectful and polite staff, the second time not so much. The staff were rude and unhelpful. My friend was having a glance for his fathers book collection in the upstairs rare book section when we were interrupted by an employee who rudely told us to leave. He rudely pointed at the stairs indicating we had to leave. My friend was of colour and i’m not sure if that had anything to do with it. Nevertheless, my friend posted a review saying we were kicked out for no reason and what i’m assuming was the same employee replied, quite arrogantly, that kids aren’t allowed in the upstairs section, and that it was closed on sundays. This makes no sense as there were other people on the upstairs section and i have been before and haven’t been denied access to this section due to my age. The bookstore had a good selection but i was very unhappy with the staff, hopefully this can change. Following is a personal message for the man that kicked us out: Dear sir, arrogance and rudeness will lead you nowhere in life, perhaps this attitude is the reason you work in a bookstore, in future, i hope you realise the wrongs of your ways and aim to change them. I have seen that this isn’t a one off as i have seen reviews in the dozens complaining about staff rudeness. I apologise to all the kind staff and the kind woman that served me upon my first visit to this bookstore and i hope you don’t have to deal with such arrogance for longer. All in all, visiting this bookstore isn’t worth it as there is a better one just 1 block down the road. PS: Notice how the majority of 1 star reviews are complaining about the owner. Please, if you see an old man with gray hair working whilst you’re about to enter, don’t bother.

Arjan Samrai: Rude employee: kicked me out of rare book section for looking around

Hafiz Waleed Hussain: Nice

Sanjana Kaicker: Rude staff, high pricesI popped into this store for a second, as I was interested in buying an English–French dictionary. I was a little confused about the pricing since there was a sign outside the door and I wasn’t sure what it referred to. I politely asked about the price since it seemed a little high for a used book and received a very rude response. Never giving them business; they hardly deserve it.

stephen parise: . So I requested a refund, which I received. All good.A few weeks later, I saw the book I had ordered was for sale again from this place. I wrote and asked is it was indeed the same book and was sent a reply quickly. I then asked for a discount since the mishap the first time. The person who responded wrote that if only I had waited to receive the book instead of opting for a refund, I would have the book by now.**Note** There was no indication I would ever receive the book, which is why I asked for a refund. No matter how much I would like to buy the book, I will search onward.Their customer service seriously needs to change.I get they're New Yorkers and all that and have to have a certain attitude, but I'm from NY too, and I would not write such a snotty response. For shame!

Filip Oliver Tv: Good prices we paid only 1$ for outside books and variety of options inside the shop as well

Argosy Book Store: what do users think?

Michael A: What can I possibly say about this oasis of the past? I am blown away by how much history can be confined into one place. Their book selection, their hospitality, the prints, the lithographs, the maps, the autographs, I can go on and on. I am an avid local amateur historian and public school teacher, I've bought two precious items from this establishment in the past few years. I bought a 1864 map of all NYC public schools and a beautiful lithograph print of Boss Tweed. Laura Ten Eyck was fantastic and helped me frame my NYC public schools map. This place is a must visit if you are a local or a tourist visiting NYC. However, I would argue this place is not a tourist attraction or a random book store. I find it to be almost a sacred vessel of the past. So much to see and purchase.

Victor Romero: Nice place

Eric Dunavant: Amazing collection of rare and used books. Wish we would have had more time.

Yohana Defrita Rufikasari: The best place to find antique book! Worth price and lovely ambience!

ANONYMOUS K: I would recommend this store for anyone who is interested in antique books, or maps. The history behind these books is astonishing. The condition of the books and the store is also very helpful. Everything is maintained in order and clean. The staff also know their stuff. It's so aesthetically pleasing, I could stay here all day! Obviously because of the age and what it has most likely taken to maintain it all, the prices were somewhat high. But to be honest, I would buy them all, if I could. If you want to explore books, and be amazed at its history, come to Argosy!

A B: Visited this beautiful timepiece of New York history recently and it absolutely did not disappoint. The vintage prints and books are well taken care of and I could spend hours just browsing there. I had heard great reviews about the staff, and am happy to say that they are helpful and knowledgeable. One young woman, Erika, was particularly helpful and bubbly. She made my experience joyful and memorable. I look forward to coming back someday!

Lisa Kretschman: I could get lost in here for hours…. This place is a gem from a bygone era.

Mercer Street Books & Records: what do users think?

Vernon: , or just like reading, I really recommend visiting!

Yiwen Lin: My daughter love it sooo nice…

L0KiS_: Wonderful little book shop. Lots of art and literature. Could easily spend several days in here.

Elizabeth Hagen: Cool store but the guy at the register was unwelcoming and rude today.

spam spam: All cover, no page.

Paul Kane: A treasure trove. You could spend hours exploring this gem of a store.

Ben Fu: Picked up a copy of Malcom X Speaks here for real cheap—super cool little stop-by.

Rachel Tang: Absolutely adorable- it reminds me of what an old New York institution looks like or what you’d imagine as a kid what bookstores are like in ny. There’s little art book gems in there, much better than any other vintage book stores. This place takes you back

G. S.: Great selection of books!

Sarah Apicella Biegel: Lovely book and record store

Kesh K: Charming used book store with a decent collection of interesting topics.

Codex: what do users think?

Tejas Gupta: Bit disorganized but that’s the charm.

Jeremy: My favorite used bookstore in nyc. Small, but always something interesting there

Matt Bernson: Last time i came to NYC i got 2 books here. It's a relatively small book shop but the selection is good and the prices are fair.

Joanna Fitzick: It felt like my own bookshelves but better.

Verónica Villegas: Great bookstore, but some materials are overpriced even if some of them are not in the best conditions due to age

John Dinyari: A tiny gem. As interesting a collection as it is small..

Julia Catacutan: Codex is my favorite bookstore in the city.

G. S.: Pretty nice selection of books! A bit cramped and the prices were also a bit high. Also the same annoying song was playing on a loop for some reason, but what matters is that I walked away with a nice first edition with promo materials and I also got two neat postcards. Worth the visit if you love literature.

woke eye (Eye Pop Compilations): You will not regret visiting this place. Forget the Strand

Anya: I love this place they always have the strangest books but still get orders of all the new content I want. Newer books can be priced a little high but so great for used books. Top two books I’ve bought here are One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each and Astrology in the Vedas.

kevin mahon: Great Staff Excellant selection.

Tony Shure: great coffee

Mast Books: what do users think?

alla zaslavsky: Excellent curated book store

Gabriela Tama: Best bookstore in the East Village - no question about it! Mast always has something new and unexpected to offer. I never leave empty-handed.

Shane Cobalt: A very specifically curated book store with emphasis on photography and art books. Really wonderful to find odd titles on odd subjects. A pinch of hipster pretention is in the air, but that's not a bad thing in this case.

jasmine benjamin: Thoughtful selection of books!

Pedro Ramos: Is small cozy place to escape the fast pace of NYC with a good book.

Mark Z: Great books, awful staff.

Ahmad Farhat: A really impressive bookshop. The selection isn’t huge but covers such a wide range of topics that you can easily find yourself list in there for hours. We were able to come across some pretty obscure volumes too that aren’t always the easiest to find. Will definitely be including this on my roster of stores to visit whenever I’m in New York.

D J.: Saw a book I wanted on the window, had a sticker saying $195, Davide Sorrenti - ArgueSKE.Although it was sealed and quite rare, a 5 second search online, found it for $82 including delivery from England and had many in stock. They need to adjust their prices here. Probably won't last long, anyway.

Bookoff: what do users think?
Sandra Bouwmeester: Good place for books good price
P Faria: Muito bons preços de livros usados. Recomendo procurar na seleção de 1 Dollar. Consegui Edgar Allan Poe e outros clássicos nessa zona.
Kim G: This place is amazing for selling and buying from used books to nik-naks relating to anime and comics. I visit there to sell and purchase Japanese manga from Japan. They have any genres that Kinokiniya ( Japanese book store) don't offer. I personally found many manga I had never seen in Kino there. I also sell manga I purchased from japan there for people who may be interested. Bookoff is constantly changing the layout of the store and additional stuff like gacha Game to keep it entertaining.
Raphi Salem: Bookoff is my favorite store in all of New York City. They originally lured me in when I worked on 45th street with their $1.00 books and inexpensive DVDs. Yesterday I scored a Mel Brooks "History of the World Part I." You can't get some of these rare movies online on any streaming service. That's why I like DVDs since you don't have to rely on Internet service. Staff is also very friendly. 45th street in midtown is super convenient.
Lux: This is a secondhand store that sells pre-owned anime figures (nendoroids, figma, scales, etc.) and pre-owned books. There's a good selection of items, but if you're looking to sell something you'll get a laughably better deal on ebay, they aren't in the charity business.
Ruxandra B: Very impressive store, especially the downstairs which features a HUGE manga collection. Very good deals there.I found some of the prices upstairs a bit high, like a $90 Paradise Kiss DVD, but maybe the store just reflects market value.
Tahmid Tawsif Nur: Have sales on some book but general sections are not very rich (ex: philosophy, history)
Marko Mladenovich: Great place for hard to find graphic novels.
Adam Modlin: Cool space with a huge selection. Haven't found another thrift store yet in the city that compares
Paul Hays: Holy anime! A little of everything that goes POP from books to figures to CDs to consoles. New and used. Great gently used bargain wall in back left with $1 treasures. A fellow geek, nerd, or dork? A must!
Currant7: Amazing collection of funko, old game console games, toys, Manga, comics and books
Jacqueline Lee: We are the BookOff’s Fan been to all the Bookoff at the West Coast, love it!
faceless sounds: Great!
Luis Sorrentini: Very nice place..
Shelly M: I loved that there was a store this big with books in good condition, video games, and collectibles. My ONLY complaint is that the books were soooo not organized. Hard to find collections when you have the series in 3 separate sections and not in author order.
Courtney Cooper: I’ve taken to visiting here when in Manhattan to check out the gashapon section, comics, and used toys. So far I’ve always left with a nice score of plushies to add to my collection for a fair market rate give they are imports. If you’re a fan of anime, manga, or retro gaming this shop is definitely worth a visit. The top floor is wheelchair accessible though some of the aisles can be tight. The lower level is not wheelchair accessible but for me that’s less of an issue not that the manga is upstairs.
Sunil Puntambekar: The place has a variety of books and other exciting stuff like gaming consoles and comics!
Amy Chu: 不用的公仔在這可以得到新的家
Petr Feigl: Místo hodně pro lidi, kteří mají rádi komiks a postavičky hrdinů z různých sitcomů.
Will Edwards: very cool, amazing selection of hard to find collectables
アルフォートレグロ: アメリカの中古本が買えます。1ダラー本や日本の書籍もあります。品種はジャパニーズサブカルが多いです。

Bauman Rare Books: what do users think?

Liudvika Davidonite: Consistently excellent selection of incredibly rare books, and the staff is warm and gracious. A true gem!

Jose R: It is a unique place, a very exclusive bookstore with very special books. First editions of important books. Everything is spotless, luxury is breathed and it is very interesting to visit.

Gerald King: Beautiful bookstore. They have a huge selection.

Nick Taber: Huge amount of respect for this place. I went here when I was a kid. They were far more gracious and sharing to me off the street than the special collections section of my university library. Very non-elitist despite selling things that are very expensive. No snooty attitude, just passion for what they do. They let me look through incredible books, handle them - even though I had no intention of buying them. Amazing service this place does. Thank you and keep it up.

erin wagnon: Very unique book shop and very pricey!

Vanessa Prieto Sandoval: Enter with curiosity and the truth is a surprising place for lovers of reading

Claire H: An amazing place to get lost in

Brandon Wang: Very helpful staff, was able to access and view many signed editions from some of my favorite authors. Would come again!

Danielle Keener: Not the types of books to peruse and handle physically but if you are looking for something specific their catalog is extensive. The young lady and man were very nice and present. Elegant shop

Mia lopez: i just wanted to know if its okay to read inside and also if your hiring?

Phurba Sherpa: Nice Place

Aman Mishra: Best book store where every type of books are available here. If you want rare books like ancient and historical books, you can contact the owner directly . If those books are available at that time , he will manage and give you that rare book but if any book is not available there, you can visit some other stores.. 👍👍

Graeme Littler: Always and amazing store to drop in on. Amazing rare books right before your eyes.

Brent L: Collectors only. I'm serious.

Zachary S: Weird Book shop. Very fancy selection of autographs and rare books. You gotta have $ to get these though!

Molasses Books: what do users think?

Becky Lee: The owner here made the best cappuccino of my life. Great atmosphere, and I found a cool book to take home.

Michael Alan Huff: 5 stars for vibe. Managing to be partially a bar, a cafe, and a bookstore. It excels in being a "3rd space", your living room away from your apartment, your font of like minds. Go, give them your money, talk to a stranger about something interesting they're reading.

Lindy Giusta: My new favorite Bushwick haunt! So charming and delightful with a unique book collection and a very quaint and lovely neighborhood feel. I love how it is open to midnight too which is very unusual for a place like this. Bravo Molasses, you will be seeing a lot of me!

Rebecka Himmelsbach: Small independent bookstore, with a bar serving tea, coffee, beer and wine.

Malak Abusoud: when the barista came to me and aggressively said to sit outside if im on the phone.I respect the no phone call policy of course but i think theres nicer ways to talk to customers. I felt very attacked and thats not a feeling i should get in a cafe. For context i was calling my mother in arabic and wishing her a happy holiday. I think we can be more gracious with each other

Nihal Hameed: The best bookshop around! Love the space, the vibe is calm and chill, and the selection is always great. Must stop by if you’re in the Bushwick area!

David Reiter: How can you not love a little used book store in middle of nowhere?

Orbán Isma: This place rules. The coffee is delicious. Folks running the space are respectful. There's books. What else can you ask for?!

Amy Regutti: Great vibe. Good coffee and a nice selection of books!

Emily Tirpak: Molasses. We know her, we love her.Good coffee, interesting books, great music. The coziest atmosphere you can imagine. There are always genuine people and genuine conversations here. This is the third place you’re looking for.

Jee Hye Kim: It's definitely a 50% bookstore and 50% cafe vibe... I just expected there would be more books because Google said that it was a bookstore.

Tiffany Lu: This combination bookstore, café, and bar leans a little more towards the latter. A great deal of space is taken up by the bar, so there aren't many seats or much standing space. They offer a mix of new and used books spanning literature and fiction, gender studies, art, children's books, zines, and more. The selection is a bit limited to make for a truly satisfying browsing experience, and the café menu is a bit limited to make for an exceptional coffee break, so the experience languishes somewhere in the middle for me. The atmosphere is cozy though, and I appreciate the amount of space dedicated to poetry alone. Note that laptops are not allowed after 8pm.

Laila Huston: I received the most stank attitude by the woman behind the bar. I had to wait for her to finish her conversation with her friends before I was even acknowledged. As a black woman I felt uncomfortable as the other non black customers were receiving good customer service and being talked to, while a hello was barely received on my end

Emmy Harris: Wonderful place with good coffee and excellent selection at a good price. Love this place.

Nadia Chilmonik: Cute & chill uses minor figures oat milk
