Cumbe: Center for African and Diaspora Dance: what do users think?

Mentes Alertas: Fun

Nae P: I recently discovered this gem and feel grateful that I did. When the new week starts, I can't wait for Saturday to come to dance Kompa and be led by Julio and Robenson. Since dancing at Cumbe, I feel more connected to myself and my culture. Thank you 3

Tonika Custalow-Stuart: From the moment that I walked through the door, I felt welcomed by the staff. I was greeted and checked in promptly. I was extremely excited to be there for Youssouf's class as he is my favorite African dance teacher. The drummers were on fire, and the atmosphere was electric. Thank you for offering a great start to my 2023. I look forward to returning. Peace & Love

Kohcoa Kibibijaweta: The staff here was pleasant and knowledgeable. I had a wonderful West African dance session with Darian Parker. I will definitely return again, for the experience

Landry Kouajiep: The best african class I've ever had. Jimena is a wonderful instructor, the drummers are passionate and the class is soooo energetic. Will visit it again next time I come to NYC!

Reniya Brooks: I love this place. It's a wonderful studio and has many optional forms of art of dance. We need to get this out there. The fact it's in the heart of Fulton Street.

Nicolle White: I had an amazing time, only thing is no heat in the studios.. its very important that dancers b provided with some heat to help circulate blood flow as well as to stay warmed up and not cause any muscles spasms or cramps. But overall great teaching from their guest artist .

Maxine Hamilton: I took Orixa dance with Tony Yemaya, who was so patient, warm, and encouraging. He welcomed questions and broke the steps down for us so we could do the choreography with confidence by the end of class. Most importantly, I appreciated that he taught us about the energy and significance of Oyá so we could better embody her through movement. 💙

Jessica Ho: I love this school! The classes are great, teachers are amazing. I also really appreciate that they are making classes affordable for the community while also taking precautions to keep staff and students safe by staying virtual for the rest of 2020. I have learned a lot from them and am always inspired and motivated to keep dancing because of their energy and their spirit.

Ernso Anicette: Positive:Quality

Laura Mollica: The west african class was just amazing, the percussionists and teacher. Not only that, but all the staff they’re very kind and helpful. The dance room is also super prepared.

C Kuo: This place is amazing. Warm and friendly staff and a variety of dance classes taught by professionals who are down-to-earth. Cumbe is all about community and inclusion. The best of the best in NYC!

BAILA Society: New York Salsa Classes: what do users think?

Sarah Berquist: I have enjoyed every single class I have taken with the teachers from Baila Society. Ahtoy is a masterful educator! They go beyond teaching just the technical steps and take time to share the culture of the dances and build community in their classes.

Katarina Sundqvist: Love the beginners classes. Great teachers. Also great that is drop in classes. Can really recommend

Jennifer Dillon: We took an awesome Salsa class on zoom on Valentine’s Day Organized by Ailey extension. I’m a serious ballet dancer and my husband is a total novice and we both loved it. the instructor was OUTSTANDING

K P: Annoyed that you have to find studio space for private classes and it’s a separate charge. Skip.

James Christie: The teachers are very good!

chandan nath: Didnt really enjoy the teaching style

Pele Rivera: . Each of the three teachers was vying to be heard above the loud music, and with so many noise sources the students were straining to hear and follow. A shambles - very disappointing.

These days a lot of dance studios got shut down, so I was looking and looking in Brooklyn for the place to teach and was not successful till I ran into a friend of mine who gave me an information of Balmir Dance Society studio. I am very grateful for Jessica and her studio!I felt alive today after teaching my first lesson after 8 months of being locked up since the quarantine started.
