The Bednark Welder is responsible for three key areas:
1. Fabrication
2. Department Production
3. Systems and Safety
The Bednark Welder is an avid and experienced builder in the Metal Department. This position is devoted to keeping their assigned build elements within budget and up to Bednarks quality standards. The Welder receives, reviews, and builds from technical drawings and also establishes task priorities according to the production schedule and Department goals. They collaborate with other Department members to safely and efficiently complete the scope of work assigned to them. A Bednark Welder is always solution-oriented and knows how to communicate and troubleshoot any unforeseen
situations in the Production process. The Welder is a role model of the Fabrication Department demonstrating their best craftsmanship and work ethic.
Below is a more detailed description of this work:
1. Fabrication
• Receives, reviews and builds from technical drawings & reports back to the Lead Welder and/or Department Manager with questions, comments, concerns
• Manages, tracks and plans their tasks according to the production schedule
• Masters all Metal Department machines, equipment, and electric/pneumatic tools
• Exhibits strong material knowledge in Metal tubing, pipes, rods and sheet goods
• Gathers and tracks all required tools, equipment, and hardware for the appointed projects
• Advance knowledge of TIG welding Aluminum, and Stainless Steel, as well as mild steel. Competent at MIG welding, Aluminum Spool MIG, And braising/TIGing Brass
• Proficient in bending, rolling, milling and cutting all metals
• Exhibits strong knowledge of hardware and architectural and structural building methods
• Performs at a high level of craftsmanship, strong work ethic, and resourcefulness
• Demonstrates keen attention to detail and thoroughness
• Consults with Metal Department Manager, Lead Welder and/or draftsperson on engineering and best fabrication practices
• Forecasts and communicates completion timelines of build elements for a given project(s).
• Ensures the product is up to Bednark standards before passing off to next step in the production
2. Department Operations
• Contributes to the Fabrication process through tech ups and installs
• Observes and demonstrates safe and efficient build practices and tool use.
• Maintains a clean and orderly Fabrication workspace and bench
• Assists the daily operations of the Metal teams assigned tasks and space
• Operates at a high level of professionalism, reliability, punctuality, and awareness
• Embodies Bednarks core values in and out of the shop
• Responsible for tracking and clocking in/ou to POs when starting/completing tasks for each project
• Collaborates in the upkeep of all department-specific tools, machines and
consumables
• Maintains knowledge of the assigned projects deliverables, including appropriate onsite assembly/install methods.
• Leads by example in fostering a positive, solution-oriented teamwork environment
• Regularly reviews hits/misses of projects with fabricators and provides constructive feedback and direction regarding their assigned tasks
3. Systems and Safety
• Conducts clear, productive and professional communications through the
Department
• Submits requests for project-specific material, tools and/or hardware through the Department Manager
• Collaborates with team members in replenishing Department consumables and tool maintenance
• Assists in introducing all new hires to Metal Department safety standards, systems, and protocols
• Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work environment in all machining, assembly and tech-up spaces
• Regularly inspects all tools, tool paths, assembly areas, tech-up spaces, access paths, and egress routes for clear and safe use
• Regularly reviews inventory and department set-up to consolidate and improve the layout of assembly and tech-up spaces, as well as storage of tools, hardware, consumables and materials to maximize productivity and safety
• Maintains a safe, healthy, and judgment-free working environment

Position Summary:
Perform MIG and TIG welding in the manufacturing of Crestliner and Lund boats, to include prep work, parts and repair.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Perform MIG and TIG welding of aluminum boats (hulls, bottoms, parts) according to drawings and specifications.
• Complete required documentation of welded boats for production purposes.
• Sand boats as needed.
• Move boats and/or parts to paint carts or overhead hanger system.
• Responsible for compliance to safety policies and procedures, as well as identifying risks and hazards prior to job completion.
• Work with team and other departments to ensure quality products and follow documented work instructions.
• Ability to locate and use the HazCom labels and MSDS information
• Work overtime as needed to complete daily tasks or projects
Required and Preferred Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Welding Certification from accredited college not required but preferred.
• Basic computer, math, reading and measurement proficiency.
• Must be able to read drawings and specifications
• Knowledge of 5S, Kaizen and LSS preferred.
• Ability to follow established safety processes to handle chemicals and equipment to weld aluminum.
• Detailed and organized.
• Self starter, team player with a good safety awareness.
Work Environment and Physical requirements:
• Regularly required to work at heights on platforms, lifting parts and pieces up to 50 lbs, traveling up and down stairs on a constant basis, sitting, squatting and bending in various awkward positions for certain lengths of time - including working overhead, traveling in and out of work areas, walking and being on your feet for a majority of the work day. Exposed to noise, dust, fumes and odors on a daily basis. Physical exertion is required. Requires standing, bending and twisting for a 10-hour shift. May be required to work in a non-air conditioned area. Vision protection, and steel-toed shoes are required. Hearing protection may be required.

The Welder Will Be Responsible For
• Check out material allocated for fabricating assignment with specifications given on Bill of Material or drawings.
• Performs all necessary set-up operations preparatory to layout, cutting or beveling and also for welding when related to his job assignment.
• Performs all layout operations relevant to his fabricating assignment, using such tools as may be necessary or required.
• Performs all necessary burning, cutting and beveling operations necessary to establish the correctness of length, bevel, and size of hole as relating to his job assignment. Does own chipping and removal of slag from burning or beveling operations.
• Uses proper tools, fixtures or other devices as may be necessary to set up and align such fittings as are necessary to set up and align from drawings within required specifications and tolerances.
• Must be able to set up and operate coupling welder and tubesheet welder in the DFT line.
• May be asked to assist lower grades.
• Has necessary layout tools.
• Exercises reasonable care and protection for all machines surfaces when welding or handling.
• Checks out correctness of overall set-up (with inspector, if necessary).
• Notifies foreman of any questionable material that is allocated to a job he is assigned to, which appears to be defective and should not be used. Must remove work from rolls or positioner when completed.
• Must be able to qualify for necessary ASME Section VIII & IX Code Welding requirements, using Metallic Arc, Heli-Arc and Mig.
• Must be code qualified on shop welding procedures for carbon steel, stainless steel to carbon steel, stainless steel to stainless steel to include PED directive or other mandated customer welder qualification requirements for the listed metals.
• When qualified in any of the above welding procedures, this entitles said qualified operator to perform such welding operations as may be called upon, when necessary. Must be able to demonstrate consistent quality in both weld and fit up. Productivity levels must be maintained to meet or exceed reasonable time estimates on a consistent basis. Assessments to be evaluated by both department supervisor and Quality Control personnel on a periodic basis.

• Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing compactors and containers, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
• Assists senior welders in the completion of project work.
• Performs service calls for compactor repair.
• Performs related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling, notching of metal and plastic parts.
• Performs all work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
• Works from prints, drawings and verbal instructions.
• Performs standard layouts and set-ups of dimensions and tolerances.
• Utilizes standard shop hand tools, measuring devices and equipment.
• Performs other maintenance related work as required.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards.
• Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

• Experience: 2 years of relevant experience.

• Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
• Basic skills in welding techniques; knowledge of safety procedures and practices necessary while operating or repairing compactors, containers and carts; skill in operating tools equipment, parts and procedures utilized during the repair and servicing of compactors, containers and carts; skill in repair of special purpose equipment; ability to perform repairs on a variety of compactors, containers and carts; and ability to utilize fleet maintenance software program may be required.
