Diane N: Avi taught a seminar for my workplace and made it very fun and informative! We learned a lot and I feel safe walking the streets of New York at night knowing various ways of self defense.

Stephanie-ann Siton: Hands down the best decision I ever made for my daughter and I. They are learning discipline and respect as well as how to defend themselves in the real world. This experience is priceless and I do not have any regrets taking them to this school. Avi the owner and instructor has shown authority without being feared. My children look up to him more than anyone else. He is extremely involved and detailed.

Krav Maga Institute NYC: what do users think?

Andrea Stephanou Cruz: I loved this place, the technique and classes were amazing! I strongly recommend it!!! I was able to win the 6 week challenge by following their instructions!!

Christian Page: I rarely give 5 stars to anything in google maps, but this place is totally worth every penny I spent there. Extremely good instructors an a safe environment o learn self defense. However, note that this location is only one of three places where KMI holds their classes and a majority of the classes are downtown at TriBeCa.

Neema Fotoohi: and even then I felt that wasn't enough in situations outside of the ring.I had heard about Krav Maga in the past and after doing some research I found Krav Maga Institute. A few reasons I narrowed it down to this particular academy are their availability of classes throughout the week, it is affordable and their locations.I took the Induction class and from then I was hooked. There's a great community at the academy, the instructors are very supportive and break things down in simple steps, a diverse range of levels in each class, and they do special events/seminars bringing outside experts to the academy. If you're looking for an academy that will teach you solid self-defense techniques, give you good workout along with a great community to boot, then sign up for the Induction class and experience it for yourself.

Ana Marjanovic: I attended the "How to Survive a Bar Fight" seminar and I loved it. Mike showed a variety of techniques in different scenarios creating a very engaging and fast-paced atmosphere while at the same time keeping everybody safe. I like his professionalism and outspokenness.I am new to Krav Maga, but I enjoy the classes at the Institute.

Anna Ginzburg: I have attended several Krav Maga classes through the Krav Maga Institute and have really enjoyed them. The classes are a fabulous workout and I am always happy about how much the classes work my body. Not to mention learning self defense moves is pretty cool! The instructors are all super positive and encouraging and I always leave class in a good mood. I also like that the warm-ups are related to the Krav Maga moves in the second half of the class. With my busy schedule it's convenient that there are several locations.Overall I've really enjoyed the classes because I not only get a good workout but also end up feeling safer on NYC streets. I recommend the Krav Maga Institute to all my friends.

Ray Lo: Signing up for KMI is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Having trained in Tae Kwon Do and boxing, I was itching to learn another form of martial arts. I quickly decided that I simply wanted to learn how to handle myself in real world situations where rules don’t apply. That’s when I discovered Krav Maga. After hours of researching schools in NYC, I had decided that KMI was for me. I’m now 2.5 years into it.Each and every one of the instructors are extremely professional, carry positive attitudes, are clear with directions, and highly skilled with techniques. They mold the experience to suit your needs and experience level. They are also normal, likable and down-to-earth people who you can easily befriend. The other students in the school are also fantastic people and very easy to get along with. They span all professions and age ranges and there’s a good mix of both men and women. The stuff you learn in class is challenging yet extremely practical. You can apply just about everything you learn in the real world for a variety of situations…knife attacks, gun attacks, rape situations, muggings, etc. These are, of course, things you don’t ever want to encounter, but the school does an excellent job at preparing you for it if it ever does.KMI also offers a variety of class types so that you can get a good all-around workout ranging from cardio classes, fighting, kettle bell, elite military fitness and the standard classes where you focus on technique. There are also locations all over Manhattan which makes it super convenient. If you want to be challenged, get a good workout, and learn how to handle yourself on the street, sign up for KMI. It’s hands down one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.

Freddy P.: For about 8 months I've been training consistently at Krav Maga Institute NYC and it has been the best decision I've ever made. I've become more confident in my skills to protect myself in the streets and I owe it to the great instructors of KMI, I feel more fearless. They're always there to answer any questions you have and are always pushing you to keep going when you feel like giving up. The students are also great and friendly and we're always pushing each other to do better. The instructors are always changing up the workouts to keep things interesting and fun. Krav Maga has changed my life for the better, I feel stronger and more energetic. So if you're looking to learn Krav Maga, Krav Maga Institute NYC is your best bet and it should be your first and last chose. You won't regret it.

Jeff Smith: to be the best with it's wide range of students and instructors. The techniques taught in class are up to date, the facilities are clean and modern, and the instructors are helpful, supportive, and they don't make me feel stupid if I'm slow learning something new in class. As for the locations, my favorite is the upper west side since it is closer to home and usually not to many people in the changing room. My least favorite is the midtown location since the locker/changing room facilities are small and limited.

M Nexus: , and the Krav Maga Institute to be the best at teaching it.

Omar Guinier: After 9 months in to training with KMI I’ve seen everyone from CEO's, lawyers, to young high school students all come for one reason, the ability to walk down the streets of New York with self-confidence in knowing the best way to handle an unfortunate encounter with an assailant. Besides talking about those pesky NY self defense Laws, it’s been great to examine and train in what’s state appropriate self defense.KMI NYC caters to all creeds, colors, small or large body types and doesn't discriminate agents woman training with men. Your most valuable asset in training with KMI is your classmate's, so we train hard but keep it safe.Be Confident and stay safeOmar G.

Margaret Morrison: I have been training with Krav Maga Institute for the past year and a half. Like several other commenters, I was interested in learning self-defense and found KMI on Groupon. I decided to try it out, and got a membership after the first week! I can't imagine a better Krav Maga organizationI have thoroughly enjoyed every class, gotten in great shape, gained confidence, met really fun people, and have learned a ton about defending myself. As a woman, I was really pleased to find that KMI didn't have the hyper-masculine, aggressive, competitive atmosphere of many martial arts classes. Instead, the students are a really diverse group-- all ages, weights, genders, races, and levels of athleticism; and are very friendly and welcoming. There is really great sense of community within the organization, which sets it apart from other programs. The KMI instructors are the main reason this organization is incredible. They are knowledgeable, approachable, and supportive. They are demanding, but they don't bring a lot of ego to their instruction. They'll answer questions, and go over moves as many times as you need, in a supportive, encouraging way. The tone of the classes, while intense and physically demanding is completely inclusive and not uncomfortably competitive.I look forward to the Krav Maga classes all week, and always leave them feeling exhausted, but amazing!! It is an great work out, of empowering and practical self-defense techniques, with really awesome people...what else could you ask for?

Brian Kushner: One of the best Krav Maga Schools on the East Coast. Taught how Krav Maga is supposed to be taught. Great workout, too!!

Miki Weinstein: was the absolute best choice. The IKMF is the original Krav Maga organization, and they have schools all over the USA and the world.Once I decided to go with the IKMF for my self defense, I looked for where it's taught. I found the Krav Maga Institute! I was so pleased with the professionalism, technique, instructors, and WOW, there is such a family feeling with everyone! KMI really stays true to the teaching of the IKMF, and I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone.

David Boyd Booker: . I believe KM to be an extremely effective way to learn how to take care of yourself, if the need arises. But why KMI, you may ask. Well, the instructors are uniformly quite good and thorough. The classes are conducted very effectively. What is also really cool is that no matter what size the class is, there is always some

Derek Jankowski: , so you get better, faster. But KMI is really about the instructors. They're all amazing, and challenge you every day. Most importantly, they love teaching Krav, and really want you to learn. I organizations are all about people, and I can't recommend this crowd enough.

Mark B: .Great thing about Krav Maga is the possibility to train along wherever your are; techniques are based on your natural reflects, so globally aligned.Next time I'm in NYC I'll defnitely join another training.Highly recommended!Regards,Mark

NY Martial Arts Academy Astoria: what do users think?

Víctor Santamaria: I am extremely pleased with instructors Sifu James, Sifu Carlos and Sifu Dino. My son has participated in their classes for the past 3 months now. have noticed a great change in my son's school work and how motivated he is to come to class! They are the best of the best!!!!! Would recommend for all ages!

laybis Beltran: In love w my school ❤️❤️❤️❤️🥊☝️

Sira Ashley Jasmine: I’ve been wanting to train in MMA for a while now and had no idea where to start, I was recommended to NYMAA and when I came in I was introduced to the nicest staff and instructors. Training is super beginner friendly and they even offered private lessons if I wanted extra help. They offer so much more than Martial Art if you’re interested is other fighting styles such as wrestling, boxing, kickboxing etc.

Mavrick's Mansion Studios: Very welcoming environment and a fun place to train. They take the time to not only train you but to also help you stay consistent.

Ralph DeLellis: I don't train in this location often, but I do train at the other locations they have because some are closer. This place is so cool and I fixed my life here with martial arts. School has done so much for me and all I had to do was put in the work. You even see the changes in your everyday life in how you feel and move. Best way to relieve stress as well

IcookIeat: Went for a lesson and sifu tim was patient, and very knowledgeable. Im coming next week for a trial class.

eleni louca: NYMA and JKD teachings are fulfilling in so many ways. Discipline, confidence, self defense are a few of many pros this place has to offer!

Ronnie D: 😐

Eddie Soto: Great place to learn martial arts. Clean, lots of space and professional teachers. I go there 3 times per week and I feel like I'm picking up on a few things!

Ramon Aleman: Been a student of JKD for 10 years, time definitely flies when you’re training JKD. The facility is definitely well maintained and persevered for training of all students regardless of age. A person who takes an introductory class is treated as part of the class like the most senior student and is not neglected.

Tere GB: The school is spacious and clean. The students were nice and welcoming. Sifu Carlos and Sifu James were good instructors, I felt a bit pressured to sign a contract after taking an intro class. I felt like I was at a regular gym and rep was asking me to sign right there and then. It was a good intro class though.

Lenny Lam: My daughter loves it here, and I can see improvements in her character.

carmela olaechea: Positive:Quality

EJ Peterson (Rain): Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value

Ifteker Chowdhury: My son is a student

Pequeño Santy: Mi niño está encantado con sus clases de Artes Marciales, los maestros son pacientes y a cada pequeñ@ les explican detalladamente cómo hacerlo, no dude en vicitarles... son Excelentes👏🏻⭐️💯

Ronald Sanchez: Positive:Professionalism

Zarko Academy: The Premier Mixed Martial Arts, Self-Defense and Kickboxing School in Brooklyn: what do users think?

Alex Parx: 💪

Anita Bonacci: Started back in 2000 was transformed beyond my imagination. When I moved away I tried numerous places to stay in shape and none could ever match up to here.

christina: Looking for discipline, weight loss, structure etc for both children and adults.. come join Zarko Academy. First class is only $1.00 and you won’t be disappointed. Ranan is the best out there! Class sizes are perfect and he really devotes his time and patience to each person individually. My son is 5 years old and has a lot of attention difficulties. I have seen such an improvement in less than 6 months. He has learned to control his behaviors more and is more motivated every day!

David Gree: Bad service

Michelle Smith: My son and I have been members of Zarko Academy for about four years. I am a member of the women's kick boxing class and my son is a member of the Little Dragons MMA class. The growth he has made over the past few years in mind and body are indescribable. He has grown stronger mentally and physically with the guidance and coaching of Shihan Raanan. His encouragement and application of his techniques are evident in my son's continuous progress. I myself have had AMAZING results as a steady member of the women's kickboxing classes. With three classes offered daily I am able to attend at least one a day. I never thought I could sweat from exercise until I took my first class. For years I have paid for gym memberships that went to waste. When I actually did go, I spent more than an hour wasting time on random machines NEVER breaking a sweat. At Zarko I get a full body workout in one hour! The atmosphere is friendly. We are a team and support one anothers development, achievements, and successs!!!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Alexis Smith: I have been apart of the Zarko Academy family for about six years. My son has learned sportsmanship, discipline, confidence and hard work along with all his Karate moves. Enough so he could earn his black belt. Great place, great experience.

Marleny Perez: The Zarko Academy has taught my son more then I could have ever imagine. He burns off energy while learning self defense. He started at 3 years old and always looks forward to the next class. The instructor is tough, but fair, and extremely patient.

Krav Maga Experts - Brooklyn: what do users think?

Bernice Ho: I started classes here with the goal of learning some self defense skills. I’ve taken classes with both Jonathan and Breo and they’re both great instructors, taking the time to explain things, correct your form, and make the classes a fun time. Both instructors are very good about accommodating different skill levels. I learn something new and valuable every time I come here.

Alex Pires: In the year I've been training here, the vibes have always been positive and the classes have been on point. They teach you practical ways to defend yourself without being a martial arts expert. Highly recommend!

jennifer saba: I took a Women’s Class in Brooklyn that was super fun! Jonathan is a great instructor- works you hard while being very encouraging. The energy of the studio is very welcoming, and easy to get started as a beginner. Would highly recommend!

Florencia Spinella: Great training, instructors and people.

Vivian Kong: So definitely recommend trying KME if you're looking to start a self defense course in NYC! if anything you be getting some abs and some serious biceps in the meantime.

dmacdougall61: An excellent school with highly qualified instructors. They were always ready to help me with my questions and also found ways for me to participate despite my preexisting physical limitations. The school is very clean and the students have a positive attitude. I highly recommend, especially for women.

Selina Yasin: Really amazing staff and teachers, great variety of classes and flexible schedules. They take the time to get to know you and answer all your questions.

Rescue 209: Was recommended by a friend and began classes a few months back. Unfortunately because of a work schedule and location change I am not able to continue at the Brooklyn location. The instructors as well as the office staff are a pleasure to deal with. Special shout out to Kym for her great communication and responsiveness when I needed to cancel my membership.Would recommend it to all! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Kaishram Lalaram: Love this place , full of energy, positivity and amazing staff, instructors and students. The Self defense consists of multiple styles such as karate , Jiu Jitsu , Muay Thai and boxing. You will not regretting joining this martial arts school.Never a dull moment .Located in a nice , clean neighborhood in Brooklyn.

Mordy Stern: Amazing instructors, and some good life skills! It's good for everyone at all ages. i recommend.Just notice, if you can't come anymore, you cannot just cancel the membership immediately. You'll need to wait for the end of the billing cycle, pay for *another month*, and only then it will be canceled

Brandon Whited: Good place for beginners to learn the ropes of self defense

Danan Fleary: What can I say... Krav maga is dope. It's super practical and very deceptive to your opponent. The instructor at the Brooklyn, his name is Marcus is Uber knowledgeable and really has a ton of real world training experience. I've been getting private training with him and it's been great! Going to enroll my daughter into the kids classes here as well. Keep up the great work!!

NY Martial Arts Academy Queens: what do users think?

Angela Gallo: I have been a student at New York Martial Arts Academy for about 10 years and it is such an amazing opportunity to be a part of this school! All of the instructors are very knowledgeable and are always there to help you. You can tell that all of the instructors love what they do and they want to see us become the best version of ourselves, both on and off the training floor. The instructors and students at New York Martial Arts Academy have created such a welcoming and fun environment for anyone to learn martial arts in. I would definitely recommend training at New York Martial Arts Academy!

mcgregor conner: I've been training here for almost 3 years now and it has allowed me to meet great people and form strong bonds with the people I train with. It's a great environment to learn martial arts because not only are you surrounded by good people, you also have a lot of fun training as the instructors tend to crack jokes throughout the classes. Great place get in a hard training session, and a real confidence booster as you will be pushed to your limits and be encouraged by the instructors and your teammates to continue despite being tired. Great instructors that know their stuff and will explain why we do certain techniques or drills a certain way. More importantly than that, it's great for personal growth as it also tends to highlight the more philosophical aspect of Bruce Lee and martial arts as a whole.

Ralph DeLellis: School changed my life, I visit all the locations but this is home. Need to fix your life? Need to build discipline in a welcoming space? This is the place you need to be, it all started here

aryan verma: best place to learn the true art of jeet kune do. they have a lot of clinics that are very fun! i enjoy going there.

火凤凰Jsnow: Simple request, i want to make sure the little neck location is not on vacation today. Called 718 and 347 phone numbers, total 4 phone calls, nobody seems to know if the little neck location is open for the day or not. They dont have the little neck location phone # or the instructors’s number. All they were doing was for me to provide my name and phone # to have someone call me back. Meanwhile its already class time and i haven't got any phone call back. Poor customer service!

Anthony Antoniou: Great place to learn Martial Arts!

Dan B: When I was looking for a martial arts to try, for the first time ever, I was very nervous especially starting at the age of 30 and not having had any prior experience. Starting from day one I felt comfortable with the trainer who was amazingly patient, had a positive attitude and didn’t make me feel self conscience about my inability to land a half decent kick. But after attending for many months I started to get the hang of it. The instructors here as well as my fellow students who I have the privilege to train with are top notch. The culture is amazing, you will never feel out of place and the teachers here are absolutely amazing, they will provide you with all the tools you need and all the attention you need to make sure you succeed and achieve your goals. I Highly recommend you check this place out!

Eddie Soto: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueWhen I am not at the Brooklyn location, I am here. The instructors are patient with you and really help you learn the techniques. It's very clean and everyone seems to care about your improvement in martial arts.

Ramon Aleman: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueGreat place, been a student at NYMAA for over 10 years!

G P: . The teaching at Little Neck keeps me there. Sifu Teddy is kind and pays attention to the small details which is how I learn. Sifu Dino is the man, the myth and the legend. He brings such a great atmosphere to a class and is warm and inviting. I’ll be training here for life, and when I do have little ones they will come here as well. Highly recommended!

Jun Cheung: The Taekondo coach is fine enough, but the Service is super poor in this location, the stuffs working here are leak training and no service awareness, when kids ask for something they need , most times they ignore them. And recently I noticed that They have been OVER more kids practice in same time even still in Pandemic time made the service worse than before .I hope both the owners and the customers can see this. Try to change it better .

Angela Ngan: , I observed and listened in every single session. Even I enjoyed it very much 😊. I was just amazed by all the techniques & moves and also the theories of why you deliver the move with your arms/legs/body at a certain angle/direction & which bone

Ronin Athletics - Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, MMA NYC: what do users think?

BerwynHeights Bjj: Awesome place awesome people! Facility is immaculate and instruction is top-notch. Visited from out of town for class and Christian and the crew were awesome. Highly recommend you give it a try.

matty cohen: I highly recommend Ronin Athletics for anyone looking to learn jiu jitsu or other self defense in New York City. When I first started taking classes here I had no experience in any form of martial arts or self defense. Now less than a year later I feel very confident in my abilities to defend myself in any physical altercation that I may come across. This location teaches Gracie Jiu Jitsu in a structured and organized manner, with specific classes offered on each day, and often there are both afternoon and evening classes offered to accommodate for different people’s schedules. There are also video lessons included so you can look online if you forget any of the details to the techniques learned in class. The classes are tailored towards beginners and also allow for more experienced people to refine their skills. There are also more advanced classes offered for when you become more experienced and improve. If you’re looking to learn self defense in NYC, you should definitely give Ronin Athletics a try.

JJ: It's a Gracie certified gym and a great place to learn jiu-jitsu if you live in New York City. I like the culture, it is welcoming and humble. The program is well-structured and detailed, and head coach Christian is a great teacher.

Trevor Holloway: I started my jiu-jitsu journey at Ronin over 7 months ago. It is a fantastic school. Christian is very detail orientated and takes things at good pace to learn. This school has given me a great foundation and appetite for the sport of Jiu-jitsu. It is very welcoming and there is a great sense of camaraderie amongst everyone.

matthew guertin: They discriminate against black people

Joanna Szczepanik: The best gym in the world!

Artur CG: Loved it. Happy to sign up for a membership

Matthew Davey: Ronin Athletics is the only Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Certified gym in New York City. The school offers a systematic approach to jiu-jitsu with an emphasis on self-defense. Kickboxing is also offered as well as classes for kids and self-defense designed especially for women. Head Coach Christian Montes brings years of experience in jiu-jitsu as well as mixed martial arts. He is deeply involved in the progress of his students and in creating a training environment that is comfortable and safe for everyone. I am 51 years old and 145 pounds and have been able to train safely at Ronin athletics for years. The gym is located in a clean, welcoming space right near Grand Central Station in midtown Manhattan in the shadows of the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings.

Mauricio Munoz: , a must for those looking to hone those jiu jitsu skills, in my opinion. Also, a big shout-out to coach Bart, whose patience and expertise have benefitted me greatly. I’d also like to highlight the work of coaches Xavier, Aiden and David

Karan Singh: I have been training at Ronin Athletics for over a year now. The faculty here is fantastic in teaching you gracie jiu jitsu. I’m a big fan of structured learning and progression in martial arts and this gym follows a strong plan in how they approach teaching. It’s a wonderful gym with fantastic instructors. If you’re looking to learn self defense in new york city, I highly recommend this place. Below is a picture of me after receiving my combative belt with the head instructors Christian and Bart.

deanbigdog: Learning jiu jitsu was a dream deferred for me. But I’m finally doing it. This gym is very conducive to learning. The coaches are patient with all levels of athleticism and ages. The gym is in a central convenient location in Midtown. There are day -as well as night and weekend classes. Ive improved flexibility as well as dropped a few pounds. I’ve enjoyed the benefits of learning Jiu Jitsu to the point that I’ve gotten my grade school child involved. He enjoys it as well, as it has improved his self confidence and helped him when the school bullies have challenged him when teachers weren’t around. I would definitely recommend a trial class to see if Jiu Jitsu is for you. As for me -Jiu Jitsu has changed my life .. I love it and will never be the same

Rolando Arco: I trained at Ronin since before their move to the current state of the art Midtown location, and I find an oasis of positivity and professionalism. Excellent choice for learning Gracie Jiu Jitsu with an emphasis on self defense. It is a smaller dojo thus the instructors know you and you get a lot of one on one attention. Christian infuses this place with his passion and knowledge of the art.

just good: What can I say this academy is a true gem in the heart of NYC. The only Gracie University CTC in the big apple and I’ve been so grateful to have found this academy. The level of instruction and attention to detail that the team there provide is top notch. Not only am I learning self defense through the Gracie Combatives program but also staying in top notch shape with the kickboxing program. Beautiful place and stays clean 🔥💯

maan batterjee: Gracie Jiu Jitsu teaches one the essential techniques needed for street survival. If one is interested in developing their grappling skills, and becoming street ready then this is the place to be.

Dustin Cintron: The Jiu-Jitsu program at Ronin Athletics is fantastic. The curriculum is intelligently structured, and the coaches are friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. I love the atmosphere, and training there has been a great experience. Highly recommended!

Andrew S: classes and will say that the experience at Ronin Athletics is excellent. Each class is designed to be very accessible regardless of prior experience and focuses on building a strong Jiu Jitsu foundation before moving on to more rigorous sessions. The facility itself is bright, clean, and is centrally located in midtown Manhattan. Their trial program was also a great way to take full classes and get a feel for what the program is like before committing to a membership. Plus, once you join you gain access to all the resources that a Gracie membership has to offer

Alex Chen: Always wanted to learn self defense as well as MMA fighting. Never got a chance to learn it properly until I came across Gracie Jiu Jitsu academy here at Ronin Athletics. It really changed my life!

Robert Calero: Ronin Athletics provides excellent instruction and recognizes the individual progress of each of the students who participate in the Gracie Combatives program. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who would desire to learn. The facility is also very importantly family friendly. Programs for men, women, and children are available. Much appreciation to Head Instructor Christian Montes and his staff. Thank You!
